Guadalajara’s skyline to welcome striking new mixed-use tower

Guadalajara's skyline to welcome striking new mixed-use tower

An ambitious new project is set to transform Mexico’s Guadalajara skyline and redefine mixed-use development in the region. Legend, a striking 190-metre-tall tower, broke ground on 24 May 2024 in the Andares Zapopan district, where it will become the tallest building upon completion in 2029.

The project is a collaboration between renowned international firms and local talent. American architecture and engineering firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is leading the design in partnership with Mexico City-based Estudio AMA, while award-winning Esrawe Studio is handling the hotel interior design.

Spanning over 110,000 square metres, Legend will house an exclusive mix of luxury residences, a Canopy by Hilton hotel, boutique retail shops, and office space across its 52 floors.

SOM Design Principal José Luis Palacios described the vision as “bringing international stature rooted in local culture, materials and craft”.

The design embraces indoor-outdoor living, featuring lush courtyard retail, wellness amenities on terraces, and rooftop communal spaces.

Residences will occupy the highest floors, offering floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, private balconies, and stunning views.

“Legend is the culmination of the best minds collaborating to achieve the most representative project of Guadalajara,” said Andrés Muñoz Alarcón, Founder of Estudio AMA.

“Inspired by local traditions and seeking evolution to become the project that will represent a historic change in its context.”

The design leverages local culture and craft, creating richly textured, handmade concrete surfaces as a counterpoint to the technical assemblies typical of towers.

Passive strategies, such as the concrete facade, will reduce energy, daylight, and glare, while locally sourced mineral aggregates will add a palette and texture reflective of the region’s natural materials.

“Legend is a project that is of its time and place,” Palacios added.

“The design brings an architecture expressive of mass and weight with a sense of proportion that is unique to the region.”

The project is a joint venture between Trust Capital Partner, Inverti, and other investors, with Trust Capital Partner Director Gerardo Alcántar stating: “Bringing together the best talent, we will deliver the best product and service for our clients.”

Inverti CEO Ignacio Ramírez expressed confidence in Legend’s impact, stating: “Legend will be established as the most influential mixed-use tower in Guadalajara.”

As construction progresses, Legend is poised to set a new standard for mixed-use development in Guadalajara, blending international design excellence with a deep respect for local culture and craftsmanship.
