Ovolo Sydney to elevate Finger Wharf luxury experience

Ovolo Sydney elevates Finger Wharf luxury experience

Ovolo Sydney has announced a dramatic transformation that will position its boutique hotel at Finger Wharf as a centrepiece of Sydney’s waterfront, with an ambitious investment and renovation plan designed to elevate the property to a new tier of luxury in both brand and design.

The overhaul draws inspiration from the heritage of Finger Wharf, reimagining the property through modern design while paying tribute to its storied past.

Every detail of the guest experience is being reconsidered as part of an effort to attract a new generation of sophisticated travellers.

Ovolo Sydney General Manager James Clark said the hotel, located just a 10-minute walk from the Sydney CBD and close to many of the city’s most treasured attractions, is preparing to enter a new chapter.

According to Clark, the renovation represents a major transformation of the heritage-listed property.

“This is a major transformation of a heritage-listed property and one of only a handful in Sydney to be located right on the water,” he said.

The property team is examining every stage of the guest journey, from individual rooms to shared communal spaces, with the goal of delivering an elevated experience defined by effortless luxury and personal hospitality.

Clark described the vision as one where destination and experience become inseparable, noting that the reimagined hotel will serve as a haven for both travellers and the local community.

A centrepiece of the renovation is the introduction of the Rockstar Suite concept, comprising two exclusive suites with expansive living and dining areas finished in deep maroon and brown tones alongside detailed woodwork for a rich, lavish aesthetic.

The suites include private balconies overlooking Woolloomooloo Bay, offering space for entertaining on sunlounges or unwinding in private saunas and ice baths.

Each suite also features a separate bedroom, ensuite bathroom and expansive walk-in wardrobe.

Despite the scale of the changes, the hotel will remain operational at suitable capacity throughout the renovation period, with several core offerings staying in place.

Guests can continue to expect Ovolo Sydney’s signature dining alongside five-star service across rooms and amenities, including inclusive mini bar snacks, refreshments and cosmetic amenities.

Clark emphasised that while the physical transformation is significant, the property’s connection to its surroundings remains central to its identity.

He explained that each Ovolo property reflects the art, music and rhythms of its location, allowing the brand’s cohesive collection to be shaped by local character.

Describing the philosophy behind the redesign, Clark said the goal is to remove friction from the guest experience and create a sense of calm through thoughtful, considered design.

“We don’t just provide a room; we curate a flow where every moment feels instinctive, fluid and entirely natural,” he said.

Guest rooms will be the first element of the renovation to be completed, with each space styled from the ground up to balance warmth, comfort and understated luxury.

New food and beverage offerings are expected to launch toward the end of the year, alongside a series of curated spaces including cocktail bars and private cellars, along with redesigned conference and event facilities.

For more than a century, Woolloomooloo’s Finger Wharf has anchored Sydney’s waterfront, evolving from a working harbour into one of the city’s most recognisable destinations.

Built in 1915 at the height of Australia’s wool trade, the wharf remains the world’s longest timber-piled structure and one of Sydney’s most significant heritage landmarks, situated near the Royal Botanic Garden and the Art Gallery of New South Wales within one of Sydney Harbour’s most esteemed precincts.
