CPB Contractors secures second major project at Melbourne Airport

21 Jun, 2024
CPB Contractors awarded Melbourne Airport Project

CIMIC Group’s subsidiary, CPB Contractors, has been awarded a significant contract to deliver stage two of the Melbourne Airport Naarm Way Project.

This latest development comes on the heels of the company’s previous contract for the Qantas T1 Security and Screening Project, awarded in December 2023.

The combined value of these two projects is estimated at approximately $260 million, marking a substantial investment in Melbourne Airport’s infrastructure.

The Naarm Way Project, commissioned by Australia Pacific Airports (Melbourne), will focus on extensive road and forecourt works, aimed at enhancing the airport’s capacity and improving visitor experience.

With Melbourne Airport’s passenger numbers projected to nearly double to 76 million by 2042, these upgrades are crucial for futureproofing the facility’s landside passenger and freight access.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria emphasised the significance of these improvements: “These upgrades will set a new standard in visitor and customer experience at Melbourne Airport, easing congestion and saving time at both passenger drop-off and pick-up and at security screening.”

The second stage of the Melbourne Airport Road and Forecourt project includes several key elements:

  1. Construction of a new 18-metre-wide pedestrian bridge and gateway from the T123 car park to the terminals
  2. Forecourt reconfiguration
  3. A new vertical transport hub
  4. Reconfiguration of the T123 carpark

The project is scheduled for completion in late 2026.

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears highlighted the company’s commitment to leveraging its aviation expertise while prioritising community benefits: “Our expert team will continue CPB Contractors’ legacy of providing local employment and training opportunities, with a focus on diversity and inclusion, in addition to maximising the social and economic benefits to the community throughout the procurement process.”

As Melbourne Airport continues to evolve to meet growing demand, these infrastructure projects represent a significant step towards improving efficiency and enhancing the overall airport experience for millions of travellers in the years to come.
