The WA government has announced a significant investment of $410 million in state school infrastructure as part of the 2024-25 State Budget.
The funding is part of a larger commitment of $1.6 billion over the next four years to provide new and improved facilities for public schools in the state.
At Piara Waters Senior High School, $73.2 million will be allocated for the second stage of work at the school.
These upgrades will more than double the school’s current capacity to 1,650 students and provide specialist facilities to support a full senior secondary curriculum for the inaugural Year 11 cohort in 2027.
In addition to the funding for Piara Waters Senior High School, the budget includes $28.4 million for the construction of two new primary schools in Wellard East and Wungong, planned to open in 2026.
A further $88.4 million has been allocated for the construction of three new public primary schools in growing areas, expected to open in 2027.
Other key investments include a $26.5 million double-storey block at Caversham Primary School, a $21.8 million investment to relocate the Mount Hawthorn Education Support Centre to Lake Monger Primary School, and $15 million to fast-track planning for a new secondary school in Brabham.
Additionally, $41.8 million will go towards maintenance upgrades in existing public schools, and $79.6 million will be spent on new transportable buildings to enable flexible expansion of capacity.
A $12 million investment will deliver an innovative two-storey modular classroom block for Highgate Primary School.
WA Premier Roger Cook highlighted the government’s commitment to providing quality infrastructure for WA schools, ensuring that students have the best possible learning experiences.
WA Education Minister Dr Tony Buti expressed excitement about the funding, which will enable the delivery of public education across the state in purpose-built contemporary facilities.
The investment in school infrastructure reflects the government’s dedication to keeping pace with school enrolments and supporting the state’s growing suburbs.
