New marina development planned for Rockingham

New marina development planned for Rockingham

The Western Australian government has announced plans to call for expressions of interest (EOI) for the development and operation of a new private marina in Rockingham.

The proposed marina, to be located at the intersection of Wanliss Street and Rockingham Beach Road, is set to become a significant coastal landmark and community asset for both locals and visitors.

WA Minister Assisting the Transport Minister David Michael highlighted the WA government’s commitment to the project, stating: “This is a significant development opportunity in a fast growing part of the metropolitan area that will deliver crucial coastal infrastructure with economic and social benefits for the State and community.”

Rockingham has long been identified as an ideal location for a marina due to its growing demand for vessel accommodation and desirable coastal lifestyle.

The expanding population of Perth and its southern suburbs further supports the decision to develop the marina in this area.

The Department of Transport (DoT) is currently preparing documentation outlining the development opportunity and inviting interested parties to register for further details of the EOI process.

Potential developers can register their interest through the government’s leasing opportunities page.

Rockingham MLA Magenta Marshall expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating: “This development will be an asset to boat owners as well as the wider local community and will attract new visitors to our stunning city.”

She also highlighted the potential for the marina to boost local tourism and create jobs in the area.

The government has indicated that any relevant work already undertaken will be utilised to expedite the development of the proposed marina.

This new initiative marks a fresh start for marina development in Rockingham, following previous unsuccessful attempts to establish such a facility in the area.

As the project moves forward, it is expected to generate significant interest from developers and the local community alike, potentially transforming Rockingham’s coastline and enhancing its appeal as a maritime destination.
