Leighton Asia has been awarded the $4.3 billion North District Hospital (NDH) expansion project by the Hong Kong Hospital Authority.
The project, to be undertaken in a joint venture, is set to revolutionise healthcare infrastructure in the North District of Hong Kong, providing approximately 1,500 additional hospital beds.
Juan Santamaria, CIMIC Group Executive Chairman, emphasised the importance of modern healthcare infrastructure for community wellbeing, expressing pride in the company’s selection for the project.
He highlighted their commitment to a ‘hospital-first’ approach, prioritising the needs of health workers, patients, and the community.
Brad Davey, Leighton Asia’s Managing Director, echoed this sentiment, noting the project’s potential to set new standards in patient care and medical excellence.
The joint venture between Leighton Asia and China Railway First Group will undertake the main works, including the construction of a new acute block.
The 20-storey structure will cover a construction floor area of 380,000 square metres, featuring a single basement level, a mezzanine floor, and various external and landscaping works.
The expansion covers the construction of a new hospital block, refurbishment, alteration and addition to existing hospital building, and the provision of associated internal roadworks as well as external and landscaping works.
Upon completion of the expansion project, NDH will provide around 1,500 additional beds.
