The Western Australian government has officially awarded the tender for the construction of the new Laverton Hospital to ADCO Constructions Pty Ltd, marking a significant milestone in the long-awaited redevelopment of healthcare facilities in the Goldfields-Esperance region.

The purpose-built hospital will provide modern emergency and contemporary multidisciplinary ambulatory care facilities, as well as outpatient services.

It is designed to integrate a range of health services under one roof, including community health, mental health, drug and alcohol support, and specialist rooms for visiting clinicians.

Additionally, space for an on-site private GP clinic will be included to enhance local healthcare access.

Main construction works are scheduled to begin in March 2025 and will run concurrently with forward works already underway.

The project benefits from a $16.8 million contribution from the Australian government’s Community Health and Hospitals Program.

WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating: “Following the early start on forward works for the new Laverton Hospital, I’m excited to see things are moving ahead to the next phase.

The new hospital will provide patients with contemporary models of care with a range of short-stay inpatient clinical and treatment services close to home.”

Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent highlighted the historic nature of this development, stating: “This is historic news for Laverton. It’s been promised for many years but is only being finally delivered under my term as Member for Kalgoorlie.

“I have worked hard to advocate for this on behalf of my community, and I’m so proud to have been able to deliver it.”

The modular construction approach aims to address challenges posed by Laverton’s remote location and extreme conditions.

The current hospital will remain operational throughout the build, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services for the community.

This redevelopment represents a vital investment in regional healthcare infrastructure, promising improved access to essential services for Laverton residents after years of anticipation.
