GRAHAM, a privately owned construction company, has been awarded a contract by the UK Department for Education to deliver the new Oasis Academy Temple Quarter in Bristol.
The secondary school will be located in Temple Quarter, a major regeneration area being redeveloped in partnership with Bristol City Council, Homes England, the West of England Combined Authority, and Network Rail.
Construction will commence this month, with the school forecast to open in September 2027.
Designed with a total gross internal floor area of 12,182m², the facility will provide space for up to 1,600 students.
The development will include a modern school building as well as the renovation of a listed structure, the boiler shop, which will be converted into a sports hall.
The project is also part of a wider master plan for Temple Quarter, which encompasses new residential, commercial, research and enterprise, and student accommodation developments.
GRAHAM regional director Peter Reavey said: “The start on site for the project marks several years of hard work by the entire project team.
“We look forward to providing the new learning facility for Oasis Community Learning that generations of school children in the Bristol area will get the benefit from.”
The design of the school aims to support student wellbeing, foster community engagement, and provide an inclusive learning environment.
GRAHAM highlighted that the development will help meet the rising demand for secondary school places in Bristol.
Oasis Academy Temple Quarter head Richard James said: “The development of our permanent site is a major milestone for East Bristol – a community that has long championed high-quality secondary education.
“While we’ve remained committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment at our temporary Spring Street site, our new property on Silverthorne Lane will be much more than a building. It will be a lasting home for learning, growth, and community pride.”
This latest win follows GRAHAM’s appointment in July as primary contractor for Clarion Housing Group’s development arm, Latimer, on the £110 million redevelopment of the former Boddingtons Brewery site in the UK.
