The Commons, Australia’s leading coworking space provider, heralds a new chapter with the launch of The Commons Richmond, an Australian first that combines premium workspaces with a state-of-the-art health club under one roof. Located at 33 Cremorne Street, this space marks the first time The Commons has fully integrated a health club into its core offering, creating an environment where work and wellness coexist.
Designed in collaboration with Design Office, the expansive 5000sqm address will accommodate up to 400 workspace members, with half the space dedicated to contemporary offices for entrepreneurs, startups and creatives. Members will enjoy 24/7 access to the Health Club’s gym floor, exclusive pay-as-you-go group classes and bath house visits, and an on-site cafe.
Richmond, long defined by its industrial heritage, is now celebrated as one of Melbourne’s most dynamic and creative entrepreneurial suburbs. The new site is uniquely positioned just moments away from Swan Street’s cafes and restaurants and seamlessly connected to Melbourne’s public transport network, and with The Commons Cremorne and South Yarra nearby, members will benefit from even greater flexibility and opportunities to connect across the wider Commons’ community.
“Each new Commons continues to push the boundaries of what a workplace can mean in people’s lives,” says Cliff Ho, Co-founder and CEO of The Commons.
“Wellbeing is the foundation for greater creativity and productivity. By embedding wellness into our coworking spaces, we’re creating environments for our members that foster connection and nurture community. Richmond marks our eleventh location in Melbourne, and with South Yarra set to open early next year, our continued growth speaks to the evolving demand for workspaces to support healthier, more balanced lives.”
Within the walls of the office space, members will find private offices, collaborative open desks, seven meeting rooms, and floor-to-ceiling windows inviting natural light throughout. At the centre, the games room provides an informal counterpoint of the working day, featuring both shuffleboard and table tennis. This space anchors the social hub, connected to the communal kitchen, open work lounge and flexible workshop room.
Reflecting on the design intent, Design Office’s Creative Director Mark Simpson said: “The integration of office space with the Health Club fundamentally shaped our approach. Rather than designing two standalone facilities, we created a dialogue between them, with the Health Club Cafe at the intersection on the ground floor. Wellbeing and work sit side by side, influencing circulation, spatial adjacencies, and the atmosphere of the work environment.” P: 1300 848 568 www.thecommons.com.au 3 Albert Coates Lane: hello@thecommons.com.au @thecommons Melbourne, VIC 3000
Damien Multihill, Creative Director at Design Office added: “The space is designed to offer moments of reprieve and focus. Our ambition is that members feel both energised and supported not only in the work they do but in how they experience their day.”
The Commons Richmond represents the next step in The Commons’ nine-year journey of shaping community-focused, amenity-rich spaces. More than a workplace, it is a lifestyle destination designed to enhance the everyday lives of its members.
By the end of 2025, The Commons’ footprint will grow to 19 locations across Melbourne and Sydney, cementing its position of delivering the future of work as Australia’s most innovative coworking provider.
