Construction has officially started on Adelaide’s newest and only under-cover shopping outlet.
The $50 million District Outlet Centre (DOC) in the city’s north will offer more than 45 iconic local, national and international brands at affordable prices under the one roof as well as extensive food and beverage options.
The DOC sits within the commercial precinct of Parafield Airport and when complete in the first half of 2023 will showcase a huge range of fashion and homewares.
Realmark Commercial’s retail team has already secured big-name tenants such as Puma, Sketchers and Timberland with many more to announce in the coming months.
Devwest Development Director, Brett Lovett, said a single-level ‘racetrack’ design was developed to offer a streamlined and easy shopping experience.
“We have aligned with some of the best builders, architects and agents in the business to ensure the District Outlet Centre at Parafield Airport is everything Adelaide shoppers are looking for,” Mr Lovett said.
“Located on one of Adelaide’s busiest main roads and with ample parking available, the centre is set to be a go-to affordable shopping destination.”
Executive General Manager Property for Parafield Airport, James Sangster, said the project would provide a significant boost for economic growth in the northern suburbs, creating hundreds of construction and retail jobs.
“The DOC sits within our rapidly growing commercial precinct which is home to a variety of other retail and commercial businesses,” Mr Sangster said.
“The centre also has a focus on sustainable practices with a large 500KW solar array on the roof with an energy network system that will sustain the day-to-day running costs of the centre and reduce its carbon footprint.”
The District Outlet Centre was designed by INTRO Architects, with Ahrens – a 120-year-old, fifth-generation South Australian family-owned company – appointed by Devwest Group to bring the concept to life.
Ahrens’ $22 million contract involves the design and construction of the 15,000-square-metre centre footprint, showcasing its complete range of in-house and project management capabilities.
The centre is expected to open to the public in the first half of 2023.
