Multiplex has been contracted by Brookfield to construct the iconic Wynyard Place in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, marking the 1000th project for Multiplex since its inception in 1962.
Designed by MAKE in collaboration with Architectus, the 75,000 square metre development will see a world class office tower, restoration of two heritage buildings, an upgrade of Wynyard’s George Street entrance, public concourse and grand transit hall.
10 Carrington Street will form the project’s centerpiece, with 59,000 square metres of PCA Premium grade office space over 27 levels, offering convenient facilities and amenities.
The refurbishment of Shell House and 285 George Street will see both heritage properties returned to their original use as office buildings.
As a truly mixed-use precinct, Wynyard Place will provide dynamic and diverse shopping experiences, including fresh food providores, convenience retail, bars, restaurants, cafes, outdoor dining and entertainment.
Mr David Ghannoum, Regional Managing Director NSW at Multiplex, said the company was delighted to collaborate with their affiliate Brookfield on Wynyard Place, following the recent delivery of Brookfield Place Perth.
“We’re thrilled that our 1000th project is with Brookfield and will build on our demonstrated experience in delivering world-class precincts together,” he said.
“Our team will draw upon its extensive capability in delivering high rise buildings in busy CBD environments.”
Complexities facing construction include working within a tight site footprint bordered by one of the city’s busiest bus interchanges on Carrington Street, maintaining safe access for pedestrians to Wynyard Station throughout the construction, and significant heritage works including retaining the heritage façade of Shell House and its heritage listed clock tower.
Early works have commenced with construction ramping up in 2017. Completion of Wynyard Place is due in 2020.
