The Western Australian government has announced an additional $12 million in funding through its Infrastructure Development Fund (IDF) to support 15 new apartment developments across Perth, facilitating the construction of more than 1,200 new apartments in key infill locations.
This latest funding round aims to help the industry reduce the upfront costs associated with connecting essential water, wastewater, and electricity services, thereby accelerating housing supply in the metropolitan area.
The new projects will share funds under Stream 1 — the Targeted Apartment Rebate program — part of the $80 million IDF, which has already supported 112 apartment projects delivering up to 8,000 new dwellings across Perth.
Highlights include 456 apartments in Burswood, 185 in Cockburn Central, 171 in Rivervale, and 36 social and affordable homes in Woodbridge.
Treasurer Rita Saffioti emphasised the government’s commitment to removing barriers for major developments: “Our government is absolutely committed to boosting housing supply across the state, and removing barriers that prevent major projects getting off the ground is a key part of our plan.
“By easing some of the upfront costs in connecting essential infrastructure, we’ve supported the delivery of thousands of new apartments, with thousands more in the pipeline.”
Planning and Lands Minister John Carey further noted the IDF’s impact: “Since it was launched, our government’s $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund has played a key role in accelerating housing supply in Western Australia.
“The funding assistance for upfront essential infrastructure costs is helping industry to unlock a pipeline of projects to deliver thousands of new apartments.
“This latest round of funding will support 15 new projects across Perth’s suburbs to deliver another 1,212 apartments close to transport and services.”
The IDF forms part of a broader strategy by the WA government to boost housing supply, including a $400 million Housing Enabling Infrastructure Fund aimed at unlocking approximately 33,000 residential lots via investments in power and water infrastructure.
Applications for the IDF’s Stream 1 and Stream 2 — Unlocking Infill Precincts — have been extended to 31 December 2025 or until funds are exhausted.
This initiative supports the government’s goal to increase housing density near transport hubs and activity centres, contributing to urban consolidation and housing diversity across Perth.
