Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) have officially completed China Resources Headquarters, a 400-metre bullet-shaped tower nestled in the bustling Houhai District of Shenzhen.
Inspired by the shape of a winter bamboo shoot, the 67-floor office building boasts a design distinguished by its innovative structure and geometric precision to create a striking addition to Shenzhen’s ever-growing skyline.
The 210,000 square metre building merges retail, residential and office amenities and is surrounded by approximately 2,000 square metres of public space so visitors can take in the city’s picturesque greenbelt and waterfront.
The building has a sculptured form of 56 external slender columns stemming from the diagrids at the bottom and converging into a crystal cap at the top, allowing for column-free interiors and a greater expression of the tower’s radial symmetry.
The building’s opening was celebrated by representatives from KPF and China Resources, who also celebrated its 80th anniversary.
At the event, KPF President James von Klemperer said that it was an honour to work on this headquarters tower with China Resources – one of the nation’s oldest and most important companies.
“The conical tower design shows a geometric boldness that reflects China Resources’ pride in their past and confidence in the future. By marking the skyline, it will be one of the most recognisable buildings of Shenzhen, China’s leading technology city,” he shared.
