Vectorworks integrates Morpholio Trace for seamless workflows

Vectorworks integrates Morpholio Trace for seamless workflows

Global design and BIM software provider Vectorworks, Inc. has launched a new integration with Morpholio Trace, strengthening its connected design ecosystem by linking freehand sketching on iPad directly with Vectorworks workflows.

The integration is part of the company’s expanding product portfolio and is designed to streamline the transition between conceptual design and detailed modelling, enabling designers to move seamlessly between creative ideation and technical execution.

The new capability addresses a longstanding challenge in design workflows: maintaining creative momentum while shifting between sketching and precise digital modelling.

By enabling users to sketch directly on scale-accurate drawings via Morpholio Trace and synchronise those inputs back into Vectorworks, the integration reduces friction and eliminates manual file transfers.

Designers can export drawings to Trace using Vectorworks Cloud Services, annotate or sketch freely on an iPad, and then reimport their work as images or vector linework fully aligned with the original model.

This bidirectional workflow supports a continuous loop between sketching and BIM, allowing users to work more fluidly across different stages of a project.

In early concept phases, designers can rapidly test ideas and overlays while preserving scale and geometry.

As projects advance, the same tools can be used for client presentations, design reviews, and coordination markups, all of which remain connected to the central Vectorworks model.

The integration reflects broader industry trends that emphasise mobility, flexibility, and user-centric design tools.

By combining the immediacy of hand sketching with the intelligence of BIM and CAD systems, Vectorworks aims to enhance both creativity and productivity.

The approach also reinforces the importance of sketching as a core design method, even as digital workflows become more advanced and data-driven.

“With this integration, we’re bringing the power of sketching and the precision of BIM closer together than ever before,” said Vectorworks Product Planner Iskra Nikolova.

“Morpholio Trace was created to preserve the joy and immediacy of drawing while connecting it to the tools that carry ideas into reality,” said Vectorworks Director of Marketing – Cloud & Mobile and Morpholio co-founder Anna Kenoff.

At the core of the integration is a built-in connection between Vectorworks and Trace, supported by cloud-based synchronisation.

This ensures that all sketches, annotations, and updates remain aligned with project data, helping teams maintain accuracy while working across devices and environments.

The result is a more cohesive workflow that supports both individual creativity and collaborative project delivery.
