The Western Australian government has taken a significant step towards addressing housing affordability and diversity in Perth’s southern suburbs by lodging a Development Application for a new housing project near the upcoming METRONET Nicholson Road Station.
The proposed development will consist of 49 new dwellings, including 18 townhouses and 31 apartments, to be built on an 8,500-square-metre state-owned site within the Nicholson Road Station precinct.
These homes will offer a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom options, catering to various household sizes and needs.
All units will be constructed to Silver Level Livable design standards, ensuring accessibility and comfort for residents.
The project, known as the Tulloch Way development, is a key component of the Cook Government’s Housing Diversity Pipeline.
The Nicholson Road Station is part of the METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link, which will be Perth’s first east-west cross-line connection.
This new transport link aims to enhance flexibility and improve public transport services in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs.
Once operational, the station will provide residents with a quick and efficient journey to Perth CBD, taking less than 30 minutes.
This strategic location will offer inhabitants easy access to jobs, services, and amenities.
Premier Roger Cook emphasised the government’s dedication to providing safe and affordable housing for Western Australians.
He highlighted the $3.2 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures, which continues to add well-located new homes for WA families.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti noted that the project represents an excellent opportunity to deliver more housing choice and affordability in a key METRONET precinct.
She added that the new housing within the precinct would enhance the area’s amenity and vibrancy.
Housing Minister John Carey stressed the government’s efforts to boost social and affordable housing options across Western Australia.
He pointed out that the Tulloch Way project is a strategically located infill development, providing people on lower incomes with access to essential services and amenities.
Southern River MLA Terry Healy expressed his enthusiasm for the project, describing it as a great outcome for Canning Vale and surrounding communities.
He emphasised that these modern social and affordable houses would provide new homes to people in the local community, perfectly positioned to take advantage of the upcoming METRONET developments.
This development marks another step in the state government’s commitment to addressing housing affordability and improving public transport infrastructure in Western Australia.
