Stockland has officially broken ground on the highly anticipated Aura Parklands, a 5.3-hectare leisure and lifestyle destination set within the future Aura City Centre.
The milestone was marked with a ceremonial sod-turning event attended by Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli and Stockland representatives.
Designed to become a central hub for recreation and community gatherings, Aura Parklands will feature a swimming lagoon with lifeguards, interactive water play areas, BBQ and picnic facilities, event spaces, and an extensive network of pedestrian pathways.
The park will be nestled within a preserved Wallum forest zone and include a ripple lawn event space, offering a natural and scenic backdrop for residents and visitors.
The parklands will also support the future Aura Retail Town Centre, located directly south of the site.
Integrated design elements will ensure a seamless connection between the town centre and the parklands, enhancing community, social, and economic outcomes.
Stockland General Manager – QLD Development, David Laner, said the parklands will become a vibrant destination for both locals and the broader Sunshine Coast region.
“Aura is a vibrant and connected community that celebrates the quintessential Sunshine Coast lifestyle.
“As the community grows, Aura Parklands will provide a recreational area where families can picnic, kids can play and swim safely, and the community can come together to socialise,” Laner said.
“Infrastructure like Aura Parklands builds on our legacy of creating communities full of energy, soul and life.
“It’s great to celebrate this milestone with Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli and Council, and we look forward to seeing the community enjoy the parklands once works are complete.”
A standout feature of the parklands will be the expansive swimming lagoon, designed to cover approximately 2,100 square metres of water surface area — nearly the size of two Olympic swimming pools.
The lagoon will include accessible graded edges, stepped entry points, and a maximum depth of 1.8 metres.
Once completed, the lagoon and water play areas will be operated and maintained by Sunshine Coast Council.
The Council plans to appoint an operator to manage lifeguard services, security, staffing, and daily operations.
Aura Parklands is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 and will form part of a larger 11.3-hectare recreational park currently in the planning phase.
The project is a key infrastructure commitment under the Caloundra South Infrastructure Agreement and reflects Stockland’s ongoing investment in delivering world-class community spaces.
