Melbourne developer PDG has commenced early works on the AU$1.5 billion One Queens Bridge development, signalling the start of a transformation for the long-dormant site.
After more than a decade sitting idle, the prime 5,059 square metre (sqm) plot at 1-29 Queens Bridge Street is being revived by the developer.
The project, titled No.1 Queens Bridge, will see the rise of a 71-storey mixed-use tower designed to anchor the city’s prestigious Arts Precinct.
Designed by renowned architecture firm COX in collaboration with ODO, the tower’s aesthetic is a direct tribute to its riverside location.
The facade features a striking sculptural design of six vertical pleats, intended to mimic the fluid movement of the Yarra River and reflect Melbourne’s shifting light.
Inside, the development will house 588 luxury residences and a proposed global boutique hotel. Residents are promised an ‘urban village in the sky,’ with over 5,500sqm of world-class amenities spanning multiple levels.
At the heart of the development is the mid-1800s Queens Bridge Hotel. PDG plans to elevate the historic pub, integrating it into the podium levels that will feature a grand atrium, high-end dining, and a rooftop bar overlooking the promenade.
PDG Managing Director, Vince Giuliano, said the project represents Melbourne’s next wave of city-shaping developments.
“This project marks the revival of one of Melbourne’s most prominent riverfront sites and the beginning of a new chapter for Southbank,” Giuliano said.
“Projects like this don’t come along often. No.1 Queens Bridge has been designed to deliver something truly exceptional for Melbourne, an address that brings together heritage, architecture, hospitality and residential living in a way the city hasn’t experienced for many years.”
Located directly opposite Crown Melbourne, the project was purchased by PDG in December 2024.
While plans are currently before the Department of Transport and Planning, sales are expected to launch in the coming months.
