Work has officially begun on McMahon’s Place, a significant new residential development poised to add more than 1,000 homes and transform over 100 hectares of former farmland into a vibrant, masterplanned community in Echuca.

The start of civil works was marked by a sod-turning ceremony attended by Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh MP, Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell, original landowners the McMahon family, and several key project partners, including local builder Northern Constructions Group.

McMahon’s Place is set to increase Echuca’s housing stock by more than 10 per cent, greatly enhancing affordability and access for local families, key workers, and newcomers.

This development is anticipated to play a crucial role in meeting the rising demand for new homes in the region.

Beyond housing, the project is forecasted to deliver a substantial economic boost.

Using national housing multipliers, it is expected to support nearly 5,000 jobs across sectors such as construction, trades, transport, and local services, while injecting $1.6 billion in total industry output and consumption into the broader economy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Resi Ventures Director and Co-Founder Khurram Saeed said: “We’re proud to be delivering on Barry and Kathleen McMahon’s vision for this land – a place where future generations will grow, just like their family has.”

He added: “Building on this legacy, we’re today announcing a $25,000 discount on land lots for locals as part of our ‘Love Echuca. Live Echuca.’ campaign.”

Saeed also emphasised the significance of choosing local expertise for the project’s early construction stages, stating: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Northern Constructions Group, a builder with deep roots in the region.

“Their local knowledge, longstanding community relationships, and track record of quality delivery make them the ideal team to help bring McMahon’s Place to life.”

Work is underway on Stages 1 and 2, with land titles expected to be released in late 2026, enabling the first residents to move in shortly thereafter.

Once completed, McMahon’s Place will offer a variety of home sizes and types, complemented by local parks, green spaces, and connections to future schools, shops, and services, all conveniently located just five minutes from the Echuca town centre.
