Westminster Primary School and Westminster Education Support Centre have undergone a major transformation with a $15 million investment from the Western Australian government.
WA Education Minister Dr Tony Buti visited Westminster to inaugurate the upgraded facilities, marking a new chapter for both schools.
The redevelopment project included the demolition of original areas of the schools and refurbishment of existing classrooms, as well as the construction of new facilities.
The redesign aimed to meet the needs of students, teachers, and the community, with buildings opening onto grassed areas and a nature playground.
Interconnecting paths provide students with a safe and inclusive space to play and learn.
At Westminster Primary School, new buildings include teaching blocks, a staff room, a dental centre, an administration building, and parking.
Meanwhile, Westminster Education Support Centre students can access new specialist education support classrooms with space to support therapy and education.
The project was designed by Site Architecture Studio and constructed by Crothers Construction Pty Ltd.
Since 2017, the state government has invested over $4.4 billion into building and upgrading schools across Western Australia.
Buti commented: “WA children and their hard-working families should have access to high-quality education no matter their circumstances.
“The rebuild and redevelopment of Westminster Primary School and Westminster Education Support Centre will provide students with an ideal learning environment and outstanding educational opportunities. We are so happy to see this officially open.”
Balcatta MLA David Michael added: “The Westminster schools have a proud history of serving local families, and the major redevelopment will ensure this can continue for years to come.
“The scope of the massive transformation of these schools includes two new general teaching blocks, a dedicated early childhood area, new hard courts and soccer field, as well as two new playgrounds, and I am very pleased I could help deliver this for the Westminster community.”
