Infrastructure upgrades totalling more than $23 million in value can now commence in the Yorke Peninsula beachside town of Fisherman Bay, with the development’s contractors announced.
Fisherman’s Bay Management (FBM) has announced South Australian civil infrastructure firm Bardavcol will deliver most the planned infrastructure, including a wastewater collection system, upgraded roads, a new stormwater system and coastal protection measures.
The work represents more than $20 million in private investment, unlocked by an innovative agreement between FBM and the Barunga West Council that will see Council act as an enabler, securing the cash generated by the division and sale of freehold allotments to pay for the required infrastructure.
In addition to the infrastructure being delivered in the Fisherman Bay settlement, Council will lead a $3 million upgrade and expansion of the area’s existing Community Wastewater Management System (CWMS).
Construction of this first phase of infrastructure will run concurrently to the freehold process, with the CWMS upgrade and associated works to commence this month ahead of a mid-2022 completion date.
Maree Wauchope, CEO Barunga West Council said the project will see over $20 million worth of private investment, and another $3 million of State Government grant money, spent in the region.
“Council is proudly acting as the enabler for a solution that represents a genuine and effective collaboration between local government and the private sector.
“An investment of this scale in Fisherman Bay is an investment in the future of our region, and one that will generate widespread economic, environmental and health benefits for the entire Barunga West community.”
Rebecca Pickering, CEO Civil Contractors Federation South Australia said FBM and the Barunga West Council securing private funding of $20 million dollars is an outstanding achievement.
“The State Government has committed $17.9b infrastructure investment over the next four years across South Australia and these privately funded projects highlight how much more work needs to be completed across our great State.
“CCF SA is equally excited to see the activation of civil works in the region to support youth employment and civil apprenticeship opportunities. The civil sector offers lucrative and secure careers across South Australia, this project will provide incredible opportunities for those seeking to enter the industry.”
