Burnside Village has officially launched the highly anticipated first phase of its Stage 6 development, marking a transformative new chapter for Adelaide’s premier shopping destination.

This major project, spearheaded by the Cohen Group, represents the largest private sector retail property expansion currently underway in South Australia, underscoring the Cohen family’s confidence in the state’s economic outlook.

The Stage 6 expansion has already delivered a significant economic boost, generating more than 1,625 jobs — including 525 during construction and an estimated 1,100 ongoing operational roles.

With the centre’s footprint doubling to 38,500 square metres, Burnside Village is poised to attract more than seven million visitors annually in the coming years.

The initial phase introduces over 80 new retailers, complemented by 560 additional free undercover car parks across two basement levels, complete with electric vehicle charging facilities.

Shoppers will experience a revitalised environment featuring dedicated precincts for home and lifestyle, electronics, health and wellness, and a vibrant new dining precinct.

Accessibility has been prioritised, with nine lifts, four travelators, and three escalators, while sustainability is addressed through a substantial 365kW solar system with capacity for future expansion.

Reinforcing its tagline as ‘Where Fashion Lives,’ Burnside Village’s expansion welcomes a curated mix of international and Australian fashion designers, further solidifying its reputation as South Australia’s leading retail destination.

Among the new arrivals are flagship stores for luxury brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Coco Republic, alongside expanded offerings from Australian boutiques and major retailers like JB Hi-Fi and Uniqlo.

Cohen Group CEO Gregg Downer described the milestone as a turning point for the centre, stating that it “marks a significant evolution for the much-loved Burnside Village as we complete the initial structural phase of this transformative project.”

“This sets the stage for an extremely exciting four-month period of community activity, and we encourage everyone to come and experience it for themselves,” said Downer.

Burnside Village General Manager Jodie Kannane added: “We are thrilled to welcome a vibrant array of new retailers to this revitalised space.

“This expansion brings fresh energy and diverse offerings that will undoubtedly enhance the shopping experience for all our valued customers.

“We believe this carefully curated mix of retailers will create an unrivalled destination catering to a wide range of needs and preferences, and we can’t wait for everyone to explore what’s new.”

The Stage 6 expansion not only elevates the retail landscape in South Australia but also sets a new standard for shopping, dining, and lifestyle experiences in the region.
