Adelaide Airport has announced the next stage of its long-term infrastructure upgrade program, Project Flight, with BESIX Watpac confirmed to deliver major expansion works that will play a pivotal role in supporting South Australia’s aviation future.
The project builds on a 15-year partnership between BESIX Watpac and Adelaide Airport, during which six projects have been successfully delivered across the precinct.
This next phase is designed to deliver the capacity needed to accommodate Adelaide’s 2050 aviation network vision.
Key components of the development include an expanded check-in hall with advanced technology integration, a 10,000sqm expansion of the Northern Terminal, and a 5,500sqm expansion of the Southern Terminal.
BESIX Watpac Chief Executive Officer Mark Baker said the company’s strength lies in delivering resilient and future-ready airport infrastructure.
“At BESIX Watpac, we deliver resilient, future-ready airport infrastructure that responds to our partners’ evolving needs – from advancing safety and security standards to accommodating passenger growth and integrating emerging technologies,” said BESIX Watpac Chief Executive Officer, Mark Baker.
“With a portfolio that includes works at major Australian airports and more than 100 secure facility projects, we understand the complexities of operational environments and the critical importance of safety, service continuity, and seamless commissioning and handover.”
“We deliver certainty for our partners through our collaborative approach, specialist expertise, and productivity-enhancing approach to building that includes the strategic use of digital construction methods.

BESIX Watpac General Manager, Al Crosby, highlighted the strength of the company’s long-standing relationship with Adelaide Airport.
“BESIX Watpac’s long-standing relationship with Adelaide Airport and deep operational knowledge will be instrumental in delivering this next phase — we have a 15-year partnership built on trust, collaboration and quality.”
“Our specialist team in South Australia has consistently delivered great outcomes in partnership with Adelaide Airport, and their expertise will ensure another high-quality project is delivered together with the support of our local subcontractor network.”
Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Brenton Cox, said the expansion comes at a critical time as the airport experiences record passenger numbers.
“Our passenger numbers are at record levels, and we are planning for that airline connectivity to continue to grow – so we are also continuing to deliver the infrastructure required to accommodate that growth.
“Our expanded check-in space will incorporate the latest technology for check-in kiosks as well as more bag-drop facilities to create a more seamless process.”
BESIX Watpac has extensive experience delivering both landside and airside works at Adelaide Airport, including the major terminal upgrade completed in 2021.
The company is also currently overseeing upgrades to passenger screening and baggage handling systems.
The latest round of upgrades under ‘Project Flight’ marks a significant step toward ensuring Adelaide can meet future aviation demand while enhancing the passenger experience and strengthening South Australia’s position in the national and international aviation network.
