At a major industry event in Melbourne, the Optus Stadium and Stadium Park at Burswood WA by Multiplex Constructions was announced as the 2018 winner of the Australian Construction Achievement Award.
Australian Construction Association (ACA) President Craig Laslett said that the winning project showcases the highly innovative solutions, teamwork and skills that constructors develop to overcome the technically challenging issues associated with today’s mega projects.
The Chair of the Judging Panel, Mr David Cruickshanks-Boyd, said the Perth Stadium recognises and celebrates Western Australia’s environmental and traditional cultural heritage.
“The team provided innovative solutions to overcome very difficult ground conditions that included dealing with a previous land fill site close to alluvial sediment.”
Mr Cruickshanks-Boyd said innovation continued throughout the above ground structure especially the design of the roof trusses, which allowed for a much safer construction as well as a significant saving to the project budget.
“The project exemplified the benefits which can be achieved when the client, community, constructor and engineer work together in a culture which is collaborative and respectful, with everyone focused on delivering an outstanding outcome.”
