
The Australian Institute of Architects has revealed the shortlist for the 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards.
With 384 submissions across 15 categories, Victoria recorded the highest number of entries of all Australian states.
Hamish Lyon LFRAIA, NH Architecture, 2025 Chair of Juries, noted the significant role architects play in addressing contemporary challenges like climate change, economic uncertainties, and the need for greater access to housing.
The awards span a range of categories, including Sustainable Architecture, Regional Architecture, and Heritage, as well as the popular Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing category.
Significant regional projects shortlisted include the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital by Lyons in the Public Architecture category, and the Geelong Laneways: Malop Arcade building in central Geelong by NMBW Architecture Studio with ASPECT Studios, in the Regional Prize category.
Striking examples in the Interior Architecture category include Murran – First Nations Business, Retail and Arts Hub by Dawn Architecture, she sells seashells by multiplicity, and Eva and Marc Besen Centre by Kerstin Thompson Architects.
Projects such as Northern Memorial Park Depot by Searle x Waldron Architecture and Woodleigh Regenerative Futures Studio by Mcildowie Partners with Joost Bakker are featured in the Sustainable Architecture category.
The winners will be announced at the Awards Night Dinner on Friday, June 27, at the Pullman Albert Park.
Victorian Award winners will then be entered into the National Architecture Awards, which will be announced in November.
An Exhibition of Entries will be open to the public at Deakin University, Burwood, from Monday, April 7.
