UDIA 2024 Awards: celebrating urban development excellence

The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) recently held its annual National Awards for Excellence, honouring outstanding achievements in urban development across the country.

The 2024 awards program, which featured 16 award categories, aimed to celebrate quality and innovation in urban development.

UDIA members from across Australia participated in the awards program, with each state division nominating one project to compete at the national level.

The awards programme, which opened for submissions in early April and closed at the end of July 2024, recognised excellence in various aspects of urban development, including masterplanned developments, medium and high-density projects, affordable housing, urban renewal, and environmental sustainability.

UDIA National President Col Dutton, praised the finalists for their exceptional efforts and achievements, stating: “All our finalists from each state across Australia demonstrated the attributes of what is special about new development.”

Among the winners were Patrick Elias from Urban Property Group, who received the Young Leaders award, and Isabel Duffy from Northrop Consulting Engineers, who won the Women in Leadership award.

The SA Housing Authority was recognised for Diversity in Development, while projects such as 38 Albermarle Street by Assemble, Henley Brook by Mirvac, and Exchange at Curtin University by Curtin University were honoured in various categories.

The prestigious Project of the Year award went to Witchcliffe Ecovillage by Sustainable Settlements + Perron Developments.

The awards not only celebrated excellence in urban development but also provided benefits such as publicity, networking opportunities, and brand enhancement for the winning projects and developers.

The UDIA National Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner, sponsored by Superloop, was attended by industry experts and judges who volunteered their time to evaluate the submissions.

The awards are highly regarded within the industry for their recognition of top urban developments in Australia.
