The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has released the final consultation in response to the Shergold Weir Building Confidence Report (BCR).
Recommendation 19 of the BCR is that each jurisdiction requires registered fire safety practitioners to design, install and certify the fire safety systems necessary in commercial buildings.
In response to this recommendation, the BCR Implementation Team within the ABCB Office developed a discussion paper, and seeks stakeholder feedback on what should be included in the national model guidance.
The discussion paper is presented as five principles, which are considered fundamental to the installation, testing, certification and maintenance of fire safety systems.
Responses to the consultation will inform the national model guidance which will be presented to, and considered by, Australia’s Building Ministers towards the end of the year.
The ABCB also thanked everyone who provided input to any of the 13 consultations undertaken in response to the BCR over the past 18 months.
Feedback is integral in continuing to shape robust regulatory and compliance systems for Australia’s construction industry.
Responses to questions in the discussion paper are invited until 11:59 PM AEST Sunday 26 September.
Only responses submitted using the online form via the ABCB’s Consultation Hub will be considered.
If you have any questions about this consultation, please contact the BCR Implementation Team.
