Western Australia Regional Development Minister Don Punch has officially opened the Railside Park in Waroona’s town centre south of Perth.
The state government has invested $4.4 million in the project, previously known as the Waroona Community Precinct. There was also a $450,000 contribution from Lotterywest, along with $248,570 from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Minister Punch stated said the project will support the Peel region’s liveability, drive economic growth and development, as well as boost tourism within the region.
“The completion of Railside Park establishes a vibrant focal point in Waroona’s town centre, giving residents an interactive and inclusive meeting place as well as attracting visitors to the area as a ‘stop and stay’ destination,” said Punch.
Railside Park is a multipurpose, inclusive space for all ages and abilities — featuring a skatepark and pump track, playgrounds and park amenities including BBQ’s, shade, rest areas and RV parking.
The park also hosts ample event and green spaces, the ‘Noongar Maar-keny Bonar Six Seasons Garden’ plus other arts and heritage installations from the community.
The revitalised town centre has the potential to attract an additional 23,600 visitors (20 per cent increase) which translates into $840,000 of additional visitor expenditure per annum.
Final works are nearing completion, with the park scheduled to open to the general public on 2 February 2024.
Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said: “The town centre redevelopment will be a major boost to the region’s economy, creating jobs and more opportunities for local businesses surrounding the redevelopment.”
