Construction has officially commenced on Riverlea, South Australia’s largest master-planned community.

Riverlea will set a new benchmark for master-planned community living. The $3 billion project is forecast to generate 10,000 jobs and involve the development of over 12,000 homes for approximately 30,000 residents.

Minister for Planning and Local Government, Vickie Chapman, says the project represents a generational investment in South Australia’s future.

“This presents a great opportunity for Adelaide, generating jobs for tradespeople, local businesses, and the broader construction industry,” Minister Chapman said.

Since it was declared a major development, state and local governments have been working closely with Walker Corporation to progress the project and deliver new infrastructure.

“Riverlea will take advantage of significant public investments in transport infrastructure, such as the recently completed Northern Connector,” Minister Chapman said.

“This comes at the perfect time for our state, with recent ABS figures showing positive net migration from interstate for the first time since 2002.”

Walker Corporation’s Executive Chairman, Lang Walker, said Riverlea will provide contemporary homes, direct access to major transport links and a myriad of on-site and local amenities including education facilities, retail centres and local business and community services.

“Riverlea is one of the largest and most exciting residential projects to be launched in Australian history as we create a vibrant, thriving community for generations of families,” Mr Walker said.

“South Australia is the home of the original house and land package, giving people the chance to grab a slice of that great Australian dream and this is going to be the State’s best master-planned community yet.”

“Riverlea will boast quality homes amongst beautiful parklands, lakes and open spaces and cater for everyone from singles to young families and empty-nesters.”

“We have a real focus on nurturing communities as they grow and Riverlea will have four new schools catering from kindergarten to year 12,” he shared.

Walker Corporation will use leading-edge engineering, technology and ecologically sustainable development practices at Riverlea which have been employed on its many other residential projects around Australia over the last 50 years, including Mt Barker in Adelaide, Rhodes in Sydney and Hope Island in Queensland.

The development will be completed in a staged process. Expressions of interest are now open, with settlements anticipated to occur in the third quarter of 2021.
