With over 1000sqm of amenities the likes of which this city has not yet seen, 661 Chapel St is bringing world’s best practice to Melbourne. From its prime position adjacent to the heritage listed Melbourne High School, this development is engineered for greatness.
Delivering a level of refinement and classic beauty rarely found beyond the ground plane, 661 Chapel St is cultivating apartments worthy of New York’s Upper West Side and London’s Chelsea.
“661 Chapel St is designed with the discerning downsizer in mind,” said the project’s lead architect, Vanessa Bird – Co-founder and Director of Bird de la Coeur, the local practice engaged to create the masterpiece that is 661 Chapel St.
“We have taken all the magnificence and tradition this buyer has become accustomed to in their elaborate family home, such as the library, wine cellar, fire place, private dining room, gymnasium, sun deck, winter garden, theatre, etc. and reappropriated them for vertical, apartment living,” said Bird.
The result, is a collection of homes with grandeur, grace and gentility. Bird de la Coeur transcends time and place with a design that transports residents and those who visit 661 Chapel St into a new and private world.
“With a holistic approach, we have created more than just another series of apartments, we have created an end-to-end lifestyle at 661 Chapel St with a suite of amenities that open up individual residences and the imagination,” said Bird.
Located across the ground and sixth floors, 661 Chapel St’s carefully designed amenities also boast a spa pool, full-scale gymnasium, steam room, sauna, sports lounge, viewing deck, barbecue pits, 2,000+ bottle wine cellar and the extravagant centrepiece – a 25-metre lap pool that dramatically cantilevers out over Chapel Street.
The design of this architectural feat is accomplished with futuristic precision, as can be seen by a sleek, sole concrete beam that supports it. Incorporated into the design was the ascension of the base that offers an immaculate view of the Chapel Street skyline.
“One of our favourite aspects is the double height library – an expression of majesty framed by a floor to ceiling window wall of glass and onyx, which creates a light filled space that not only impresses but soothes and calms with its natural richness and warm, golden light it emits.”
The experience doesn’t stop there, with this attention to detail carrying through from the hand laid blue cobblestones and collection of Lalique pieces by famed British artist, Damien Hirst.
The eloquence of such gestures is reflected throughout the apartment interiors themselves, where the upper echelons of design come to the fore with premium Gaggenau kitchen appliances, natural stone finishes and custom hand tufted carpets included as standard.
“Throughout the development as a whole, our guiding philosophy has centred on quality, scale and elegance combining to create a place of esteem where residents can live, relax and entertain guests just as they would in a large format house ,” added Bird.
Currently under construction and rising majestically from its urban surrounds, 661 Chapel St is on track for completion in early 2018.
