Multiplex has been appointed by 3L Alliance to deliver the first residential tower in the new mixed-use development, Queen’s Place. The $1 billion-dollar landmark is set to be located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.
The tower is to be designed in collaboration by Cox Architecture and Fender Katsalidis Architects and will encompass 1,500 apartments within twin towers, spanning 80 levels each set above a podium. The mixed-use development will feature retail and commercial office suites, a library, karaoke suite, private restaurants, a poker and mahjong room, secluded cinemas for resident’s enjoyment, a private garden terrace, in addition to a public plaza with adjacent laneway shopping precinct. If that isn’t enough, the Queen’s Place tower is also set to include resident facilities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium and crèche, within the mix.
“We are delighted to be part of this exciting new project, set to deliver a vibrant new vertical community to Melbourne’s CBD along with some innovative and engaging public spaces,” announced Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director of Multiplex.
The architecture of Queens Place was designed to ‘weave the city’s past, present and future’ into a ‘striking, tri-form composition’ which flourishes at every level, from every vantage point. The towers will be designed so that as they rise, the towers recline away from each other, resulting in a signature asymmetry designed to maximise views, and allow for light and privacy to the upper levels. A final touch transforms the topmost two levels of each tower into monumental fluted glass lanterns, resulting in a crowning of elements, whose bronze-coloured glow will be visible to all against the night sky of the city.
“We have deliberately set out to create an exemplary project that delivers unrivalled design and community outcomes,” commented 3L Alliance General Manager Gavin Boyd.
The first stage of Queens Place is valued at $355 million and will see the construction of a six-level basement, six-level podium and the first 80 level residential tower. Together they will provide a total of 815 apartments in a range of floor plans including one, two and three-bedroom configurations, in addition to exclusive penthouses.
Located on 350 Queen Street (at the verge of Flagstaff Hill), Queens Place is positioned in a prime location for residents, walking distance to locations such as Crown, the Yarra River. The elevated positioning of the site will also deliver panoramic views of the CBD and surrounds.
Construction is set to commence immediately, with completion expected in the second quarter of 2021.
