MTR Corporation’s joint venture with two subsidiaries of Gamuda Berhad has been awarded the Parramatta Integrated Station Development contract, a major project on the Sydney Metro West line in New South Wales.
The contract covers the design and construction of the future Parramatta metro station, along with the development of buildings above and adjacent to it.
MTR will contribute its experience in creating rail-connected communities as part of the winning consortium, supporting Parramatta’s continued growth as Western Sydney’s economic centre.
The joint venture, known as the Riverside Link Consortium, is made up of MTR Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of MTR Corporation, alongside Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd Australia (GE Australia) and Gamuda (Australia) Pty Ltd (GL Australia).
The partners intend to draw on their combined experience to deliver a transit-oriented precinct designed to support sustainable mobility, generate employment and diverse services, and drive further economic development in the Parramatta community.
Parramatta, often described as Sydney’s “second CBD”, is set to see its new metro station open in 2032.
Once services begin, travel time to the Sydney CBD is expected to fall to around 20 minutes.
The Integrated Station Development will include office, retail and residential properties, to be delivered in phases following the railway’s opening.

David Tang, Managing Director, Property and International Business of MTR Corporation, said the project offers MTR the chance to apply its experience integrating transport infrastructure with residential, commercial and community development.
“We are honoured to contribute to this landmark project for Parramatta and Western Sydney,” he said.
He added that MTR looks forward to working with Sydney Metro, the New South Wales government and its partners to deliver a station precinct that supports long-term value for passengers, residents, businesses and the wider community.
Ewan Yee, CEO of GE Australia, the lead partner for the station’s design and construction works, described the award as a milestone for the three companies’ collaboration.
“This is more than just another station award, it’s the first time all three partners have joined forces on one integrated transport-oriented development for Parramatta,” he said.
Yee also credited Sydney Metro’s confidence in the consortium’s delivery record, built through the Western Tunnelling Package, and said each station award has strengthened the partners’ commitment to creating jobs and lasting community benefits.
MTR, rooted in Hong Kong, has been expanding its international footprint by applying its rail operations and transit-oriented development expertise to support urban growth and connectivity abroad.
In Sydney, MTR has operated Sydney Metro Northwest since 2019 through its subsidiary Metro Trains Sydney, and supported the 2024 opening of the City line, now known as the Metro M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line.
That line has achieved passenger satisfaction of 98 per cent and train service punctuality of 99.4 per cent.
Separately, a joint venture formed by MTR and a subsidiary of CRRC was previously awarded the Sydney Metro West TSMO contract, covering operations and maintenance of the network for 15 years following the line’s planned commencement of service in 2032.
The Parramatta award adds to MTR’s growing portfolio of transit-oriented development projects in Australia, reinforcing the company’s role in shaping Sydney’s expanding metro network over the coming decade.
