The Queensland State Government has awarded John Holland the tenders for the Logan Hospital Stage 2 Expansion and the Princess Alexandra Hospital Expansion.
These are the first two major expansion projects in the Queensland Health and Hospitals Plan to have the tender awarded.
The cornerstone of the Plan was a $9.78 billion infrastructure spend that will see three new hospitals built, 11 hospitals expanded, and a state-of-the-art Queensland Cancer Centre constructed.
The Logan Hospital Stage 2 Expansion project is a $530 million investment that will deliver 112 additional beds.
This is in addition to the current investment of $460 million for the Stage 1 major expansion that will provide an additional 206 beds and is currently being delivered by John Holland.
The Stage 2 Expansion takes the Palaszczuk Government’s investment in expanding Logan Hospital to over $1 billion, together with the Stage 1 Expansion and a number of other infrastructure projects that are being delivered.
The Princess Alexandra Hospital major expansion is a $350 million investment that will see an additional 249 beds created through refurbishment and construction above the existing Emergency Department.
The expansion will include more intensive care beds and more high dependency beds, which means greater access to acute care and intensive care services.
The Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital expansion will create 854 jobs during the construction phase, while the Logan Stage 2 expansion will generate an additional 1290 construction jobs.
Both projects are expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
QLD Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D’Ath said: “I’m proud the Palaszczuk Government is delivering the nation’s largest health capital program that will ensure Queenslanders will have access to modern, world-class health care for decades to come.
“Only the Palaszczuk Government has the vision for such an ambitious and important plan.
“We’re creating new facilities, thousands of hospital beds, thousands of construction jobs and thousands of health jobs.
“Today’s announcement is a real win for existing locals and the families who will eventually call the region home in the years to come.
“The 361 new beds being delivered as part of these two expansions are just some of the 3,378 additional beds being delivered across Queensland.
“In contrast the LNP only has a track record of cutting, sacking and selling.
“Under the LNP, there would be less hospital beds and less health workers. Their only plan is a Debt Reduction Plan that would spell disaster for the Queensland health system.
“John Holland has been a key partner in the delivery of large health capital infrastructure projects since 2018, and already has a track record with Logan Stage 1.”
