Construction begins on basketball stadium for Forest Hill Chase

Construction has begun on a new basketball stadium at Forest Hill Chase, located in Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Forest Hill, with completion expected by mid-2026.

The new three-court stadium will become the home of the Nunawading Basketball community and the Spectres team.

The new facility will be located on level 3 of the shopping centre and will offer training areas and competitive courts for the Nunawading Basketball team and associated teams.

Ingrid Vanin, Centre Manager at Forest Hill Chase said: “We are thrilled to take this important next step. This facility will not only celebrate basketball but will also provide a meaningful, lasting space for locals to gather and connect, and for emerging young player talent to thrive.”

“This milestone reflects our commitment to evolving Forest Hill Chase into more than a shopping destination – we’re creating a versatile community hub that promotes wellness, inclusion, and champions local youth sports.”

The new basketball facility will transform Forest Hill Chase from a retail centre to a multi-purpose community hub.

The new stadium is expected to create local jobs and serve as a platform for youth engagement and community wellness initiatives.

Harold Finger, Principal and Co-Founder of the centre’s co-owner and manager, Haben, said the new facility highlights how suburban centres can evolve into multi-purpose destinations that bring a community together.

“By blending retail with competitive sport, the centre expects to drive additional visitation and deepen community engagement, reinforcing Forest Hill Chase’s role as more than just a shopping destination but a space that fosters wellbeing, activity, and a true sense of belonging,” Finger said.
