ICON Developments has received development approval for an $80 million mixed-use building in the heart of Melbourne’s Richmond.
Located at 2 Brighton Street, and dubbed ‘The Richmond’, the 1300 square metre project is 10 storeys high and will encompass 78 apartments and a ground-floor retail tenancy.
The building has been designed by Rob Kennon Architects and draws on a modernist style through the use of clean lines, a simple palette and robust materials.
It will feature a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses.
ICON Developments senior development manager, Georgina Goldsworthy, says The Richmond will offer considered and honest design in a tightly held pocket.
“The project is positioned perfectly to capture the best Richmond has to offer being a stone’s throw to both Swan and Church streets and on the cusp of Cremorne. We are excited to be granted the opportunity to add something special to this popular and vibrant area.”
“The development has a timeless design inspired by modernist principles and will enhance the surrounding streetscape through its simple grid format, raw materiality, use of greenery and café offering,” she said.
“The connectivity and amenity that come with the location are unrivalled and The Richmond will cater to a range of purchaser types who are looking to live in this area.”
A rooftop garden nestled on level eight, along with other amenities, is expected to complement the building’s design.
The Richmond’s simple yet striking architecture maximises views and the residences will benefit from a city or green outlook depending on the orientation.
Additional collaborators include Hecker Guthrie for the project’s interior design and Eckersley Garden Architecture for landscaping.
“We are looking forward to bringing this design-led building with an exceptional team behind it to Richmond soon,” adds Goldsworthy.
Construction at The Richmond is set to commence in early 2021.
