Tasmania launches new website for 24/7 access to housing support

Empty offices could help fix housing crisis

Tasmanians applying for housing assistance can now access services and submit applications round the clock following the launch of the digital Housing Connect Portal.

The online platform offers residents a modern, flexible channel to test eligibility, apply for social housing, and manage personal details without being restricted to standard operating hours.

“Digital is the way of the future,” said Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent.

“The Portal will make it easier for Tasmanians to understand what housing services are available, check their eligibility and apply for assistance. The Portal allows people to do this at a time that best suits their circumstances, meaning they aren’t limited to seeking help only during business hours.”

Existing Housing Connect clients will also be able to log in to update personal information and ensure their details remain accurate as their situation changes.

Designed primarily for individuals with low or no support needs who can independently navigate online applications, the system aims to streamline the state’s housing assistance process.

However, the state government noted that face-to-face assistance will remain available across Tasmania.

People with moderate to high support needs can continue accessing in-person support at Housing Connect front door locations or over the phone via the 1800 helpline.

“Importantly, the Portal complements rather than replaces the existing Housing Connect front door locations and 1800 number,” Vincent said.

“People who need face-to-face support will continue to have access to those services.”

The initiative aligns with the government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, which focuses on unlocking land, building more homes, and increasing housing security state-wide.
