Australia's first specialist cardiac hospital among winners of prestigious property awards

Australia’s first state-of-the-art specialist cardiac hospital and a world-first vertical village office tower are among the winners of the Property Council’s 2024 Rider Levett Bucknall State/Territory Development of the Year awards.

The awards, now in their 42nd year, serve as a pathway to the Property Council’s National Innovation & Excellence Awards, set to be unveiled at a gala event in Sydney this September.

The program celebrates groundbreaking innovations and outstanding leadership in Australia’s property industry.

In Victoria, The Victorian Heart Hospital was recognised as the state’s best development.

This pioneering facility is Australia’s first dedicated cardiac hospital, designed to provide innovative, patient-centered care and world-leading research and education.

The hospital incorporates heart-themed design elements, including cardio-rhythm profiled façade screens and a large ‘gravitational heart’ central courtyard.

New South Wales saw Quay Quarter Tower take home the state Development of the Year award.

This pioneering vertical village redefines the future of work, offering some of Sydney’s best views while focusing on promoting human interactions and smart technologies to drive business success.

Other notable winners include the innovative Chermside Affordable Housing complex in Queensland, the precinct-rejuvenating ONE Subiaco mixed-use development in Western Australia, and 83 Pirie in South Australia, which integrates hospitality, wellness, and commercial functions under the ‘WORKLIFE’ concept.

Property Council Chief Executive Mike Zorbas praised the winning projects for their positive city-shaping, community enhancement, and design excellence.

“These awards throw a dazzling spotlight on the role community-defining projects play in shaping vibrant, sustainable and forward-looking cities,” Zorbas said.

RLB Global Board Chair Peter Tulla emphasised the winners’ role in shaping a brighter, more sustainable future for Australian cities.

“These developments go beyond merely creating structures—they revitalise neighbourhoods, stimulate economic growth and create spaces for people and businesses to thrive,” Tulla stated.

The winners of these state and territory awards are now contenders for the Innovation & Excellence Awards’ top honour, the Australian Development of the Year, to be announced in September.
