CPB Contractors, as part of the NEWest Alliance, has achieved a significant milestone in the delivery of Perth’s METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link (TCL) project.
The first test train successfully ran earlier last week, marking the beginning of an extensive testing and commissioning phase along the 17.5-kilometre alignment.
This crucial step ensures that all infrastructure and systems operate effectively, guaranteeing safe and efficient train operations.
The TCL project, which is being delivered by CPB Contractors, includes the construction of two new stations at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road, as well as upgrades to the existing Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations.
The project represents Perth’s first east-west cross-line connection, promising to revolutionise public transport for residents in the city’s south-eastern suburbs.
Once operational later this year, commuters can expect journey times of 26 minutes from Nicholson Road Station to Perth and 29 minutes from Ranford Road Station.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti highlighted the project’s significance, describing it as a “game-changer” for thousands of residents who previously lacked access to Perth’s rail network.
CPB Contractors‘ involvement in Perth’s METRONET extends beyond the TCL project.
In 2024, the company successfully delivered the 14.5-kilometre Yanchep Rail Extension, connecting Perth’s northern coastal suburbs to the CBD and airport.
The NEWest Alliance, which includes CPB Contractors, was awarded the contract for both the TCL and Yanchep Rail Extension projects in December 2019.
Recent achievements of the TCL project include the completion of foundation works for the new Ranford Road Station entry building, marking the transition to above-ground construction phases.
With the commencement of test runs, Perth’s METRONET project is one step closer to providing improved public transport services and supporting the city’s growing population.
CPB Contractors’ role in delivering this transformative infrastructure highlights the company’s expertise in large-scale rail projects and its commitment to enhancing urban mobility in Western Australia.
