METRONET Ellenbrook Line set for December launch as final stations completed

New train station for Ellenbrook now complete

AUSTRALIA — The highly anticipated METRONET Ellenbrook Line is on track for its grand opening on Sunday, December 8, 2024, as the final two stations have been completed.

This milestone marks the culmination of a major infrastructure project that promises to transform public transport in Perth’s north-eastern suburbs.

The completion of Morley and Noranda stations follows the earlier finalisation of Ellenbrook, Ballajura, and Whiteman Park stations.

Both Morley and Noranda stations boast modern facilities, including 400 parking bays and secure bike parking each.

The stations also feature impressive public art installations, with Morley Station showcasing an arrival statement piece comprising a mural and perforated screens, while Noranda Station is adorned with skylights, façade screens, and an underpass mural.

The new line will significantly reduce travel times for commuters:

  • Morley to Perth: 15 minutes
  • Noranda to Perth: 18 minutes
  • Ellenbrook to Perth: 31 minutes

The 21-kilometre METRONET Ellenbrook Line begins at the newly constructed Bayswater Station and includes new stations at Morley, Noranda, Ballajura, Whiteman Park, and Ellenbrook.

This $1.65 billion project, jointly funded by the federal and state governments, has already supported over 6,500 jobs.

It is expected to unlock thousands of new housing options for Western Australians as part of future developments.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti commented: “The METRONET Ellenbrook Line is powering towards completion, and when it opens later this year it will slash travel times for people across our north-eastern suburbs.”

A community celebration is planned for the opening day, December 8, featuring family-friendly entertainment at each of the five new stations.

Regular passenger services will commence the following day, Monday, December 9.

Notably, the new Ellenbrook Station has achieved a 6 Star Green Star – Railway Stations v1.1 certification, making it the highest-rated station under this tool.

This achievement underscores the project’s commitment to sustainability and innovative design.

As the METRONET Ellenbrook Line nears its launch, it stands as a testament to the Western Australian government’s commitment to improving public transport infrastructure and connectivity in the Perth metropolitan area.
