The HIA's latest research reveals a notable shift in language diversity within the construction sector, indicating a broader range of languages spoken among workers.
Housing Industry Association (HIA) Executive Director Geordan Murray said despite this trend, the construction industry still rates very poorly when compared to other sectors when it comes to recruiting migrant workers.

Free asbestos awareness course available to workers
SafeWork NSW, Building Commission NSW, and TAFE NSW have collaborated to offer a free online 'Asbestos Understanding and Safety' course to raise the general public's awareness of the safety issues associated with asbestos.
This short self-directed online course, known as a micro skill, is intended for anyone likely to come into contact with asbestos at work.
It is hosted on the Construct NSW digital learning platform, part of a wider suite of courses built in collaboration with the Department of Customer Service and Building Commission NSW.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a landmark $4 billion remote housing investment across 10 years for Aboriginal Territorians.

Hutchinson and CFMEU appeals ruling upheld in Federal Court
A full Federal Court has upheld appeals by the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) and construction company J Hutchinson Pty Ltd against an earlier judgment in favour of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
The trial judge had found that the CFMEU and Hutchinson agreed to boycott a waterproofing subcontractor at the Brisbane Southpoint A apartments construction site in 2016, meaning the subcontractor could no longer perform the work.
