Multiplex has been appointed to deliver the $206 million world-leading Learning and Teaching Building for Monash University encompassing a large underground carpark and regional transport interchange.
Regional Managing Director Victoria at Multiplex, Mr Graham Cottam, said the multi-story 30,000 square metre facility is a cornerstone project in Monash’s ambition for the next half century.
“Monash University is already ranked within the top one per cent of global Universities and fittingly the brief by architect John Wardle is both challenging and visionary,” said Mr Graham Cottam.
“We are delighted to partner with Monash University to be part of a revolutionary vision for higher education where innovative learning spaces are realised through a series of light-filled atria, indoor and outdoor landscapes.”
The highly visible construction project will provide Monash University with a new face to the community, featuring a new front door experience for all visitors arriving at the University through a new transport interchange.
“Tens of thousands of people come to Monash every day. Multiplex has been entrusted to also construct a large new underground carpark, along with a multi-modal, integrated Transport Interchange to increase capacity for buses and improve commuter experience and amenity of arrival on the campus.”
Awning structures will provide pedestrians and bus patrons with generous shelter while complimenting the varying context of the Learning and Teaching Building façade screens and landscape features.
Construction of the new facility is underway and is scheduled for completion in February, 2018.
Multiplex also recently completed Monash University’s $145 million student accommodation precinct, comprising four new residential buildings providing a combined total of more than 1,000 studio apartments, with associated retail and student informal learning spaces.
The contractor has also been responsible for delivering some of the most high-profile and technically advanced education facilities in Victoria including the $200 million Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Swanston Academic Building in Melbourne’s CBD and the $100 million Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning Building (FABP) in Parkville.
