Western Sydney University (WSU) has revealed the concept design for its latest high-rise campus in the Bankstown CBD.
The highly-anticipated new campus is set to revitalise the CBD precinct and embed the university in the economic, social and civil life of Bankstown.
Nestled between Bankstown’s Council administration building and the Library and Knowledge Centre, the campus is expected to deliver new jobs and educational opportunities within the heart of the community.
WSU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Barney Glover AO said: “Bankstown City campus will offer highly-accessible, technology-rich teaching and research facilities, and will provide our students with the opportunity to engage in work-integrated learning and collaborative research partnerships”.
The campus forms a part of WSU’s ‘Western Growth’ strategy, a program which aims to reshape the university’s campus network including establishing vertical campuses within the growth centres of Western Sydney.
Key features of the Bankstown City campus include:
- Teaching and research programs focused around the defining characteristics of Canterbury-Bankstown: health (ageing and healthy living), advanced manufacturing (with a small and medium-sized enterprise focus), and education.
- Courses offered in teacher education, psychology, arts and humanities, business, accounting, IT and non-clinical health areas.
- Integration of WSU’s The College throughout the campus.
- Teaching and research spaces infused throughout every level of the building, as well as conference spaces, flexible spaces to showcase industry partnerships and innovation, informal learning areas, and social spaces for students including indoor and outdoor terraces.
- Working in partnership with businesses to provide opportunities for work integrated learning and collaborative research.
- Easy accessibility by public transport, including the future Bankstown Metro station.
The university is encouraging public engagement on the proposed plans and development process when it commences in mid-2019.
Western Sydney University’s Bankstown City campus is anticipated to open in early 2022.
