Australia’s fastest-growing apartment hotel operator, the Veriu Group, has kicked off the year with the completion of extensive refurbishments at two of its most popular Punthill properties, Punthill Essendon and Punthill Williamstown, as part of its ongoing national refurbishment program.

Delivered over approximately nine weeks at a combined investment of $1.6 million, the upgrades represent a significant reinvestment in the Punthill portfolio and underscore Veriu’s commitment to enhancing guest experience while protecting the long-term value of its assets.

Both properties have undergone a comprehensive transformation encompassing all guest apartments, lobby and reception areas, meeting and conference spaces, upgraded Wi-Fi infrastructure and refreshed external signage. The refurbishments have elevated the look, feel and functionality of each hotel, delivering a more contemporary aesthetic while retaining the warmth and comfort synonymous with the Punthill brand.

Across both properties, guests can now enjoy refreshed interiors featuring fresh paint, new carpets, modern window furnishings, new furniture and artwork, upgraded smart TVs, new beds and premium bedding, as well as new small in-room appliances and fully replenished kitchen packs. Improved Wi-Fi capabilities also deliver fast, high-quality connectivity throughout the hotels.

Punthill Essendon, located at 1142 Mt Alexander Road, offers 56 apartment-style rooms across studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and two-bedroom interconnecting configurations. Built in 2006, the property features a fully equipped gymnasium, meetings and events facilities, secure on-site parking and accessible rooms. Rates start from $220 per night.

Punthill Williamstown, located at 4/18 Ferguson Street, comprises 42 keys including studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as adjoining and interconnecting options ideal for families and group travellers. Built in 2012, the hotel also features a rooftop deck, gymnasium, meetings and events spaces, secure parking and accessible accommodation. Rates start from $275 per night.

Designed to accommodate both business and leisure travellers, all apartments feature fully equipped kitchens, in-room laundry facilities, dedicated living and workspaces, and private balconies (excluding studios). Many apartments enjoy sweeping views across Williamstown and Melbourne’s city skyline, reinforcing the appeal of both properties for short and extended stays.

Veriu Group Chief Executive Officer Zed Sanjana said the refurbishments were a timely and strategic investment.

“We acquired the Punthill brand in 2018, and Punthill Essendon and Punthill Williamstown remain among our strongest performers,” Sanjana said. “In an increasingly competitive market, it’s critical that we continue to refresh our product and elevate the guest experience to meet the expectations of today’s discerning travellers.”

“The goal of these refurbishments was to modernise the aesthetic, capitalise on each property’s prime location and ensure our brand standards are consistently applied, while maintaining the sense of comfort that Punthill guests know and value.”

The upgrades mark the continuation of a broader program of targeted refurbishments across the Punthill portfolio, with further announcements, including works at Punthill Little Bourke in Melbourne’s CBD — expected over the coming months. Additional openings of new Veriu and Punthill apartment hotels are also on the horizon as the group continues its national expansion.
