Veriu Group expands ACT footprint with opening of Punthill Narrabunda

Australia’s fastest-growing apartment hotel operator, Veriu Group, has today announced the opening of Punthill Narrabundah, further strengthening its footprint in the ACT and marking its second property in the capital following the successful launch of Punthill Tuggeranong in 2024.

Located at 61 Jerrabomberra Avenue in Canberra’s sought-after inner south, the 86-key apartment hotel represents the strategic repositioning of an existing property, underscoring the Group’s ability to identify and unlock new growth opportunities in high-demand urban markets. The opening also reflects Veriu Group’s continued national expansion, with a growing pipeline of properties across both metropolitan and regional Australia.

Punthill Narrabundah has been designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s traveller, offering a mix of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, two-bedroom interconnecting and accessible apartments. Each apartment is fully furnished and thoughtfully appointed, featuring a fully equipped kitchen, streaming-enabled television, high-speed internet connectivity and in-room laundry facilities. Select apartments also include balconies or courtyards, further enhancing the sense of space and liveability for guests.

The property delivers access to a comprehensive suite of amenities including reception and lobby area, off site gymnasium facility and a guest pantry, providing both convenience and flexibility for guests staying overnight, for several weeks or longer.

The opening of Punthill Narrabundah comes at a time of sustained demand for high-quality extended-stay accommodation in Canberra. Unlike many other Australian markets, the ACT benefits from consistent, year-round visitation driven by government, defence, corporate and institutional activity. This creates a strong and reliable base of guests requiring accommodation for longer durations, often seeking a more comfortable and practical alternative to traditional hotel rooms.

Veriu Group CEO Zed Sanjana said the Narrabundah opening aligns closely with the Group’s long-term strategy to expand its presence in markets where extended-stay demand is both deep and resilient. “Canberra is a unique market in the Australian accommodation landscape, underpinned by a stable and diverse mix of demand drivers including government, defence, education and corporate travel,” he said. “These segments frequently require longer stays, and that’s where the Punthill product really resonates—offering guests more space, flexibility and a genuine ‘liveable’ experience that better suits extended visits.”

He added, “Following the strong opening of Punthill Tuggeranong, the addition of Punthill Narrabundah allows us to broaden our reach across the city and service a wider range of locations, guest segments and travel needs.”

Narrabundah’s inner-south location is a key differentiator for the property. Positioned within close proximity to Canberra’s central business district and major government precincts, the hotel offers convenient access to Parliament House, the Parliamentary Triangle, key government departments and national institutions. It is also well connected to Canberra Airport and the Brindabella Business Park, a major commercial hub supporting corporate and fly-in/fly-out travel.

The property’s location also places guests within easy reach of some of Canberra’s most popular lifestyle and leisure precincts. Nearby Manuka and Kingston offer a vibrant mix of cafés, restaurants, retail and waterfront experiences along the Kingston Foreshore, while Lake Burley Griffin provides opportunities for walking, cycling and outdoor recreation.

Major cultural attractions including the National Gallery of Australia and Questacon are also easily accessible, as are key event venues such as Manuka Oval, which hosts major AFL and international cricket fixtures. In addition, the nearby Fyshwick precinct provides a unique mix of retail, trade and market-style experiences, including the Canberra Outlet Centre and Fresh Food Markets.

This combination of corporate, institutional and lifestyle demand drivers positions Punthill Narrabundah as a highly versatile accommodation offering, capable of appealing to both business and leisure travellers.

While the property is expected to primarily cater to corporate and long-stay guests, it is also well placed to benefit from Canberra’s growing events calendar and seasonal leisure demand. Events such as Floriade, Kanga Cup and Oktoberfest continue to attract significant visitor numbers to the capital, while Canberra’s proximity to regional destinations including the Snowy Mountains makes it an attractive base for winter travel.

Families, visiting friends and relatives, and travellers seeking a more spacious and flexible accommodation option are also expected to form an important part of the guest mix.

Looking ahead, Veriu Group remains focused on scaling its presence across key Australian markets, with a target of significantly increasing its portfolio over the coming years. Veriu Group currently has 8 new hotels under construction across the country including sites in Adelaide (SA), Ryde (NSW), Epping (VIC), Shepparton (VIC), South Yarra (VIC) and Albury (NSW).

The addition of Punthill Narrabundah is another important step towards that goal, reinforcing the Group’s position as a leading provider of apartment-style accommodation tailored to the needs of modern travellers.
