A major construction milestone on Fragrance Group’s $315 million Premier Tower has been reached, with Multiplex ‘topping out’ the brand new 79-level high-rise residential tower.
Prominently located on the corner of Spencer and Bourke Streets and designed by high-profile architects Elenberg Fraser, Premier Tower presents a striking new addition to the Melbourne CBD skyline with its distinctive ‘wave like’ curved façade.
According to Multiplex, the wave design presented several challenges to construction with the changing floor plates and cantilevered slabs requiring innovative approaches to formwork and installation of the façade.
Multiplex developed and implemented innovative techniques including a retractable cantilevered protection deck at the top of the podium, a custom off-set lifting arm to recover and install screens and cantilevering the external tower crane.
The building now stands at 246 metres above street level and offers sweeping views of Melbourne’s CBD and surrounds.
According to Multiplex, some 35,000 cubic metres of concrete has been used on-site to date with a team of over 300 people working on the project.
Key members of the project team include engineering firm WSP and development managers PDS Group.
“We are delighted to reach this milestone and are now a step closer to delivering one of the most distinctive new residential towers in the Melbourne CBD. It truly is a one-of-a-kind building and sets a new benchmark in residential design,” said Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director at Multiplex.
The tower comprises a mix of apartments and hotel accommodation with a retail space. A six-level podium houses 172 hotel rooms with guest facilities including an exclusive pool, lounge, restaurant and bar. Premier Tower sits above this with a total of 796 apartments in a range of one, two and three bedroom configurations.
Exclusive facilities for Premier Tower residents will include an indoor heated pool, sauna, gymnasiums, barbeque areas, virtual golf, billiards/poker rooms and theatre rooms.
Construction of Premier Tower is on track for completion by the end of 2020.
