A call has been made for aspiring designers to submit designs for a dynamic, sustainable and playful structure that will be installed in a new open-air cultural precinct in the middle of Lismore in New South Wales.
Southern Cross University is funding the competition and has named it the ‘Innovate: Situate: Southern Cross University Design Prize’. The winning design will be located in the Quad, a new multi-purpose outdoor space located between the Lismore Regional Gallery and the Conservatorium of Music and the Lismore Library, in NSW. The purpose of the project is to test different ways that the precinct can be utilised by audiences, children, and the public while also focusing on how sustainable materials and practices can be integrated when creating micro venues.
Lismore Quad has stated that the long-term vision for the project is to experiment with what kind of structures could possibly be built by Lismore City Council in the future.
The successful submission will be nominated by a panel of industry professionals including Brent McAlister: Director of Sustainable Development Lismore City Council, Dominic Finlay-Jones: Founding Principle at Dominic Finlay Jones Architects, in addition to Jane Fullerton: Director at Fullerton Creative Landscape and Interior Design and Dr Stephen Garett: Head of Art and Design at Southern Cross University.
