Eurobodalla hospital structure reaches tallest point

16 Oct, 2025

The tallest point of the $330 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital has been reached, with Multiplex officially ‘Topping Out’ the four-level structure in south‑east Moruya.

Located along the Princes Highway, the major project is one of the largest new hospital developments on the New South Wales South Coast and is set to transform healthcare access for Eurobodalla communities.

A Topping Out ceremony was held onsite to celebrate the milestone, attended by New South Wales Premier the Hon. Chris Minns MP, Minister for Health the Hon. Ryan Park MP, and Member for Bega the Hon. Dr Michael Holland.

The new hospital will include a modern Emergency Department and an eight‑bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) — the region’s first intensive care service — alongside new surgical and operating theatres and an expanded medical imaging department featuring additional x‑ray and MRI facilities.

Further plans include expanded ambulatory care for community outpatient services, short‑stay mental health beds, and new paediatric and maternity services.

The project will also enhance training opportunities for health staff through purpose‑built educational facilities, such as a simulation laboratory.

“We’re proud to reach this critical milestone on this world‑class health facility, which sets an enviable new benchmark for regional healthcare,” said David Ghannoum,  Multiplex Regional Managing Director for   NSW and the ACT.

“Importantly, Eurobodalla Regional Hospital has unlocked significant local employment opportunities and will support the growing Eurobodalla Shire community for years to come.”

Around 200 workers are currently on site each day, with the potential to support hundreds of indirect jobs over the project’s lifespan.

Over 40 per cent of the construction workforce comes from the local Eurobodalla region, contributing to a strong employment boost.

So far, 11,500 square metres of concrete have been poured — enough to fill 200 backyard swimming pools — alongside the use of enough steel reinforcement to build 1,200 cars and 175,000 metres of post‑tensioning cable, equivalent to the distance between Moruya and Canberra.

Under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement with Health Infrastructure, Multiplex collaborated with clinicians, staff and community members to shape the hospital’s design.

Eurobodalla Regional Hospital is also a pilot for the Connecting with Country design framework, with Multiplex engaging extensively with Health Infrastructure and local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.

Their input has influenced landscaping, front entry, meeting spaces, interiors, healing and outdoor care areas, the façade, and integrated artworks.

The hospital’s new maternity department will feature birthing suites with baths and private outdoor spaces on Yuin Country, along with a special care nursery, feeding areas and a family lounge.

Delivered by Health Infrastructure on behalf of the NSW Government, the hospital is scheduled for completion in 2027.

Multiplex has established a strong track record in delivering major health and hospital projects nationally, now surpassing $3.8 billion in active health developments across Australia — including the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct in the Hunter Region and the new Footscray Hospital in Victoria.
