Eastwood Centre redevelopment transforms urban living

07 May, 2025
Eastwood Centre redevelopment transforms urban living

The DA-approved Eastwood Centre redevelopment is poised to transform the heart of Eastwood, delivering new retail, housing, services, job opportunities, and public amenities — all located next to Eastwood Station in Sydney.

The project, designed by AJC Architects, draws inspiration from Eastwood’s strong cultural ties with the Asian community, reimagining the centre with a vibrant Eat Street, fresh food market, and diverse retail offering, all crowned by residential apartments encircling a lush, landscaped ‘big backyard’.

Guided by the holistic concept of JieFang, which loosely translates to ‘authentic’ or ‘neighbourhood feel’, as the design aims to reflect and celebrate Eastwood’s rich cultural heritage.

The vision is for Eastwood Centre to become a lively destination for dining, shopping, living, and gathering, seamlessly integrating new public spaces with the existing street network and retail precinct.

A standout feature is the pedestrian Eat Street link, providing a sheltered outdoor dining experience that connects The Avenue, Rowe Street, and Rutledge Street.

Internally, publicly accessible arcades lined with smaller shops on the Rowe Street level will create a finer-grained urban experience.

The lower ground floor will feature a bustling fresh food market, specialty retail, and supermarkets, while the first floor will host destination dining restaurants with indoor-outdoor terraces activating Rowe Street Mall from morning into evening.

Above the retail, a 3,200 square metres landscaped communal open space will offer residents a green outlook and a secluded garden for relaxation and play.

The development will deliver 41,421 square metres of residential GFA and 21,587 square metres of retail and commercial GFA, with 411 apartments — including five affordable dwellings — 1,135 car spaces, and upgrades to the Rowe Street Mall.

“The new centre is poised to reimagine urban living, where vibrant streets with an eclectic mix of food and retail overlap with lush green spaces — celebrating Eastwood’s heritage and diverse community,” said Kaustav Gupta, AJC Senior Project Lead, Design.

Eastwood Centre stands as a landmark urban renewal project, honouring cultural identity while enhancing community life and supporting local economic growth.
