88 projects have been shortlisted for this year’s NSW Architecture Awards. The shortlist comes from a record field of over 200 entries from around the state following an extensive review by a team of 17 jurors across 12 categories.
In congratulating the shortlisted entrants, NSW Chapter President Andrew Nimmo said:
“This year’s shortlist displays the important and varied contributions architects make to our environment and quality of everyday life. Encompassing a broad range of scales and focus – from beach shelters and play spaces to community centres and university buildings – these projects highlight the importance of promoting design excellence at all levels of our built environment.
“Affordability and diversity of housing is an important community issue and one of the Institute’s advocacy priorities. It is encouraging to see a large number of entries in this year’s multiple housing category, showing how density done well and considered urban design can enhance the liveability of our cities.
“I am also pleased to see so many strong projects across regional NSW, with several ambitious projects contributing to the public realm of our regional towns and cities.”
The winners of the NSW Architecture Awards will be announced at a special presentation evening on Saturday 1 July at Luna Park in Milsons Point, Sydney.
A host of other prizes will also be announced on the night including the Blacket Prize for regional architecture, the NSW President’s Prize, the NSW Premier’s Prize and the City of Sydney Lord Mayor’s Prize.
Prizes for outstanding individual contributions to the profession and the state’s architecture will also be awarded, including the Emerging Architect Prize, the Marion Mahony Griffin Prize (recognising the significant contribution of a woman in architecture) and the David Lindner Prize (a research prize for graduate and emerging architects).
Winners of 2017 NSW Named Awards and Architecture Awards will progress to the National Architecture Awards to be announced in November 2017.
