Deicorp gains approval for sustainable Macquarie project

Deicorp has secured development approval for a major residential project in Sydney’s Macquarie Park, marking a major milestone in the transformation of this key innovation and employment hub.

The approval, granted by the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, paves the way for a 17-storey residential building comprising 181 apartments, including 29 affordable dwellings targeted at key workers and lower-income earners.

The project, located at 161 Herring Road and 13-15 Lachlan Avenue, is situated just 300 metres from the Macquarie Park Metro Station.

Designed by DKO Architecture, it aligns with the state’s broader strategy to promote housing in well-connected, high-demand locations.

The development features landscaped communal areas, rooftop open spaces, and four basement levels with 191 car parking spaces and dedicated bicycle facilities, emphasising sustainability and livability.

One of the project’s environmental highlights is its aim to achieve an industry-leading 7-star rating under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).

It will include sustainable features such as on-site solar energy generation, recycled water use, and energy-efficient designs, reflecting Deicorp’s commitment to sustainable urban development.

Deicorp Chairman Fouad Deiri OAM expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating: “Macquarie Park continues to evolve as one of Sydney’s most dynamic mixed-use precincts.

“This approval allows us to move forward with creating high-quality, accessible homes that contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable community”.

Financial contributions from Deicorp will support local infrastructure and services, with a $2.8 million contribution allocated to community, cultural, and open space projects, alongside a $1.6 million Housing and Productivity Contribution.

These funds aim to bolster local amenities, supporting the project’s broader community benefits.

Strategically positioned within walking distance of Macquarie University Metro Station and Macquarie Centre, the development adjoins the Macquarie Park renewal area — a designated growth precinct for new homes, improved transport links, and public space enhancements.

As Deicorp advances to detailed design and early construction planning, a targeted project commencement has been set for 2026.

This project is a part of Deicorp’s extensive pipeline, which currently includes over 2000 apartments under construction across Sydney.

The approval marks a significant step in fulfilling the city’s housing needs, supported by the state’s forecasting of an addition of 172,900 homes over the next six years.
