Construction begins on Redcar culture venue in the UK

Construction begins on Redcar culture venue

Robertson Construction North East has officially commenced the construction of a new family culture and entertainment venue, along with a modern library, in the heart of Redcar, England.

The project marks a significant milestone in the Redcar Town Deal, an initiative aimed at revitalising the town centre and driving economic growth.

The development follows the recent demolition of the former Marks and Spencer (M&S) and Goodwins buildings, as well as the completion of essential surveys and design consultations with neighbouring property owners.

Designed as a contemporary, multi-use facility, the new venue will become a focal point for cultural, educational, and entertainment activities in Redcar.

The plans include a reimagined central library that will promote digital literacy, community learning, and children’s engagement through dedicated storytelling spaces.

In addition to the library, the project features indoor family leisure attractions and improved links between the town centre and the seafront.

An outdoor events space will further support community activities and gatherings.

The architectural design seeks to maximise natural light and coastal views, using materials and elements that reflect Redcar’s rich seaside heritage.

The development is expected to create new jobs, attract more visitors, and provide a boost for local businesses, according to Robertson Construction North East.

The company is also leading the redevelopment of the Grade II-listed Redcar Central Station, transforming it into a multifunctional hub that will offer transport, leisure, and retail facilities.

Neil Kennedy, regional managing director at Robertson Construction North East, commented: “As main contractor, we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, with Robertson Construction North East leading the delivery of this landmark project.

“This vibrant development represents a significant regeneration opportunity for boosting the local economy, creating jobs and providing a welcoming space for the community.”

The new family culture and entertainment venue is poised to become a cornerstone of Redcar’s ongoing regeneration, offering a dynamic space for residents and visitors alike.
